Win Streak Up To Five For Sand Devils

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The winning streak extended to five in a row for Sun Devil Beach Volleyball on Friday as the team won both of the duals, sweeping San Jose State and beating Washington 4-1.

Arizona State improved to 7-3 (2-0 Pac-12) after the wins today. The Sand Devils had two pairs win both of their matches in straight sets. The freshman duo of Rylie Kael and Anya Pempberton hit their stride in the No. 2 spot, sweeping both of their matches. Additionally, senior Maddy Salazar and freshman Kylie Wickley did the same on court five. 

Fifth-year senior Cierra Flood moved into a tie for fourth place in the record book with 57 career wins, tying with former teammate Samantha Plaster. 

Game One: Arizona State 5, San Jose State 0
The first dual of the tournament saw two three-set matches and a couple of overtime sets, but the Sand Devils still pulled out the sweep over the Spartans (2-6) for a fourth-straight win. The freshman pair of Rylie Kael and Anya Pemberton got the first point of the dual via a sweep on the No. 2 court, their second win of the season. A long 25-23 second set on court five from Maddy Salazar and Kylie Wickley clinched the dual.

Game Two: Arizona State 4, Washington 1
The second dual of the day was a quick one with only one match going to three sets. The Sand Devils defeated Pac-12 opponent Washington (2-2) with a final score of 4-1. The first point of the dual came from Salazar and Wickley with a sweep on the No. 5 court. The No. 2 court clinched the victory for ASU, winning in two sets.
