Bruins Wrap Outdoor Opener, NCAA Indoor Championships

Fullerton, Calif. – UCLA Track & Field finished up its weekend at the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton, capping its first outdoor meet of the season with impressive performances across the board.
Chinyere Okoro was one of just two Bruin student-athletes to compete on the track, taking a victory in the 200m with a time of 24.00. She finished over a half a second clear of her nearest challenger. Dakota Stanly was the other sprinter to hit the track on Saturday, taking sixth place in the 400m with a time of 57.75.
The UCLA men went 4-for-4 in achieving PRs in the discus competition. Aidan Elbettar led the way with a third-place finish and a toss of 55.46m (181-11). Ugonna Ikejiofor (53.74m, 176-3) and Dayne Gordien (52.32m, 171-8) went 4-5, respectively, while Gino Cruz took seventh with a mark of 47.23m (154-11).
Lyvante Su'emai led the way for the Bruins in the women's discus, as the freshman took third overall with a toss of 53.26m (174-9). Natalie Ramirez (45.67m, 149-10) and Lydia Liu (45.09m, 147-11) finished fifth and eighth overall, respectively.
Sean Lee was the Bruins' top finisher in the men's high jump, clearing 2.00m (6-06.35) for fourth place overall. Freshman Aaron Kim secured seventh place with a clearance of 1.95m (6-04.75).
Sophia Hartwell doubled in the long jump (5.23m, 17-02.00) and triple jump (11.19m, 36-08.50), taking fifth place overall in both events. Hawa Kamara led the way in the triple jump with a fourth-place finish, clearing 11.23m (36-10.25). Gabriel Martin was the Bruins' lone participant in the men's long jump, clearing 6.38m (20-11.25) for 11th place overall.
NCAA Indoor Championships
UCLA capped its 2022 indoor campaign with an appearance in the women's 4x400m relay at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The Bruins finished sixth overall with a time of 3:33.32 to earn All-America honors in the relay.
The Bruins will be back in action for the UC Riverside Multi Events on March. 24-25. Additionally, UCLA is set to host the Bob Larsen Distance Invitational (March 25) and Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational from Drake Stadium.
