Cal Back At Home To Face Liberty Sunday

Mar 12, 2022
Maya Lawliss and the Golden Bears return home Sunday to host Liberty in a Noon first draw.

CAL BACK AT HOME TO FACE LIBERTY SUNDAY
— Cal will play five of its next seven games at home beginning with Sunday's contest against Liberty that will mark the first-ever meeting between the teams and opens a three-game homestand for the Golden Bears
— Sunday's forecast in Berkeley calls for a gametime temperature of 57 degrees with mostly cloudy skies and winds out of the south/southwest at four miles per hour

MORSE, SCOTT AND LAWLISS LEADING THE OFFENSE
— Amanda Morse, Liz Scott and Maya Lawliss have combined for 23 of Cal's 39 goals through the first six games with Morse's team-high 10 followed by Scott's seven and Lawliss' five
— Morse, Scott and Lawliss have garnered all five of Cal's hat tricks in 2022 with Morse and Scott both getting the first of their career with Morse getting three goals at Navy and against San Diego State, while Scott had three at Navy and then again against No. 15/15 Denver, and Lawliss had the first of her career in Cal's most recent game at Stanford

LAWLISS COMING OFF HUGE GAME FRIDAY AT STANFORD
— Maya Lawliss equaled a career-high four goals and added an assist for a career-high five points in a 20-8 loss at Stanford on Friday
— Lawliss, who was tied for second on the team with 24 goals in 2021, had scored just a single goal in Cal's first five games of the 2022 campaign but is now third on the squad with five

STRONG STARTS
— Cal has started strong in three of its first six games, holding a 3-2 lead early in the second quarter at Virginia, a 3-1 margin after the first quarter against San Diego State, and scoring three of the game's first four goals against UC Davis

BEARS HOLDING THEIR OWN IN ON DRAW CONTROLS
— Cal's 81 draw controls equal their opponents' 81 with the Golden Bears holding a 19-10 advantage in the season-opener at Navy, a 17-13 margin at Stanford, and equaling the 13 registered by San Diego State
— Cal came into 2022 having outdrawn its opponents in each of the past three seasons

2022 DEDICATION GAMES
— Cal's next dedication game will take place when the Golden Bears honor late Duke lacrosse player Morgan Rodgers, who committed suicide in 2019, in their "Morgan's Message" game and Pac-12 opener against USC on Friday, March 18
— Morgan's Message strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletes, while aiming to expand the dialogue on mental health by normalizing conversations, empowering those who suffer in silence, and supporting those who feel alone
— Cal dedicated its February 26 game to the late Stephanie Smith, a former Cal lacrosse player who passed away from cancer in 2018
— Cal also has remaining 2022 dedication games to honor and recognize Oakland Lacrosse (April 1), Bears United (April 3 and 10) and One Love (April 23), with details of each still to be announced
