Ducks Go 2-0 in Doubleheader

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon men's tennis picked up two wins today, defeating Portland 4-2 and Montana State 4-0 at the Student Tennis Center.
 
Match 1: Oregon got off on the wrong foot after Portland took the doubles point. Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele dropped their first doubles match of the dual season, falling 7-6 (9-7) to give the Pilots the first point of the match. The Ducks got on track from there and took two of the next three points, behind a 6-2, 6-2 win from Jesper Klov-Nilsson and a 6-3, 6-2 victory from Luke Vandecasteele. Ivailo Keremedchiev dropped his match 6-3, 6-3, to leave things tied up at 2-2 midway through singles.
 
Q. Vandecasteele then picked up a huge third point for the Ducks, defeating Eleftherios Neos 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). The decisive point in the match came from Ryoma Matsushita, who won 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Charlton's match would go unfinished, leaving the Ducks with a 4-2 victory.
 
Match 2: The doubles point was a tight one in the second match of the day vs. Montana State. The teams split the first two matches and the third came down to a tie-break, where L. Vandecasteele and Avi Shugar won 7-6 (7-5).
 
The Ducks continued to dominate from there, winning the next three points to sweep the match 4-0. Luke won 6-1, 6-1 for the second point of the match, while Klov-Nilsson got the third 6-3, 6-1 and Keremedchiev got the decisive third, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Up Next: The Ducks are on the road next week, playing Tulsa on Monday, March 21st and Nebraska on Wednesday the 23rd.
