FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The No. 7 Washington softball team concluded its trip to Colorado with a 9-0 (5) defeat of Northern Colorado Sunday morning.
Brooke Nelson earned the win in the circle, pitching four innings and striking out five. The junior also continued her hot hitting on the weekend, smashing a three-run home run in the second inning. Freshman Kinsey Fiedler also hit a long ball – her third in the last four games. Baylee Klingler doubled in the second to extend her nation-leading RBI total and move her hit streak to nine games.
The Huskies will next compete in conference play against California in Berkeley Friday at 3:00 pm PT.
NORTHERN COLORADO SCORING
1st: Sami Reynolds was walked, then stole second and third. She scored on a failed pickoff attempt.
2nd: Brooke Nelson homered to center field, scoring Angie Yellen and Kelley Lynch.
2nd: Baylee Klingler doubled to right-center and scored Megan Vandegrift.
3rd: Olivia Johnson hit a sac fly to score Kinsey Fiedler and move Angie Yellen to third (who then scored on a throwing error).
3rd: Vandegrift doubled to left field, then moved to third on a throwing error, and Jadelyn Allchin scored.
4th: Fiedler homered to center field.
NORTHERN COLORADO NOTES
Baylee Klingler extended her hit streak to nine games, and has had an extra-base hit in each of the past five games.
Kinsey Fiedler has hit a home run in three of the last four games. Prior to her home run Tuesday against Robert Morris, she hadn't hit a long ball since opening weekend.
Brooke Nelson earned the win in the circle, pitching four innings and striking out five. She also hit her second career home run (second home run of the weekend) to put three runs on the board.
Pat Moore pitched the final inning and struck out two Bears.
Seven different Huskies scored runs against Northern Colorado. Klingler, Fiedler, Nelson and Olivia Johnson recorded RBI.
This is the ninth Husky shutout of the year.
