Stepto Rings Up 13 As Beavers Take Down Bison
CORVALLIS – Tarni Stepto struck out 13 as the No. 23 Oregon State softball team took down North Dakota State 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Kelly Field.
Stepto pitched all seven innings, allowing just four hits and the one run. She moves to 8-1 on the season with a 1.91 ERA. Kiki Escobar went 3-for-4 and scored a run, while Charity Sevaaetasi tallied two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
Grace Messmer had two hits in the contest, while Eliana Gottlieb had one hit and scored a run.
As a team, Oregon State now moves to 22-4 on the season. The Beavers out-hit the Bison 11-4.
Oregon State struck early, plating a pair on a double by Sevaaetasi. The Beavers posed a threat again in the second, but stranded runners on second and third.
OSU tacked on a third run in the third, getting action going with three-straight singles to load the bases before Des Rivera brought home the runner from third. The Bison pulled one back in the top of the fourth.
Oregon State continued to threaten in the late innings, loading the bases in the fifth and placing runners on the corners in the sixth, but OSU was unable to add another run on its way to the 3-1 victory.
The Beavers will open Pac-12 play next weekend when they face Arizona State for a three-game series in Tempe.
