Three National Champions Named CU Athletes of the Week, Presented by Arrow

Mar 15, 2022

BOULDER--This weekend saw three individual championships captured by Colorado Buffaloes including skiers Magdalena Luczak and Filip Forejtek as well as Micaela DeGenero of track and field. The three earned the honors of CU Athletes of the Week, presented by Arrow.

The NCAA Championships took place in Park City & Soldier Hollow, Utah over the weekend. For the first time in CU history, the men and women swept the Giant Slalom Races with Luczak and Forejtek winning the program's 101st and 102nd individual championships. They were the program's 99th and 100th NCAA Championships.

The Buffs track and field team competed at the Indoor National Championships in Birmingham, Ala. over the weekend. On Saturday night DeGenero took home the mile national title. She stormed from last to take the lead in the last two laps and finished with a time of 4:33.92. This was the first time in NCAA history that two different runners from the same school won the women's mile title in back-to-back years, as CU's Sage Hurta won it last year.

The ski team closed out the 2022 season by finishing fourth in the NCAA Championships. The women's indoor track and field team finished tied for 11th place with 17 points. Track and field will move outdoors and start their season at home with the Jerry Quiller Classic this Friday and Saturday.

Others nominated include Hailey Shalk (women's golf) and Eduardo Herrera (men's track & field).
