UCLA Lands Three Players on NABC's All-District Team
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UCLA men's basketball players Tyger Campbell, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Johnny Juzang have been named NABC All-District selections, as announced on Tuesday by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
Juzang has been honored as a first-team selection in District 19. Jaquez Jr. and Campbell has been recognized as second-team selections (District 19). Last season, Campbell had been honored as a first-team all-district selection by the NABC (District 19).
The same trio of UCLA student-athletes were named first-team All-Pac-12 selections one week ago, at the conclusion of the regular season.
Juzang has averaged a team-leading 16.0 points per game for the Bruins this season (27 games, 26 starts). He enters the NCAA Tournament as the Pac-12's third-leading scorer and has shot 82.2 percent at the free throw line. He has scored at least 10 points in 23 of 27 games played and has shot 43.5 percent from the field during his junior campaign.
Campbell has averaged 11.5 points, 4.2 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 30 games (30 starts). The 5-foot-11 guard from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, currently ranks No. 6 in the nation in assist-turnover ratio. He has registered a team-best 126 assists and just 38 turnovers. Campbell ranks No. 4 in the Pac-12 in 3-point shooting percentage (41.2) and is shooting 82.1 percent at the free throw line.
Jaquez Jr. has registered 14.0 points and a team-leading 5.8 rebounds per game as a junior this season (31 games, 31 starts). He has shot 48.5 percent from the field and has totaled six double-doubles – including a pair of double-doubles in UCLA's three games last week in the Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas. Jaquez Jr. averaged 20.0 points and 8.7 rebounds in three Pac-12 Tournament games, earning All-Tournament Team honors last Saturday evening.
Joining Juzang as first-team all-district selections were Arizona's Bennedict Mathurin and Azuolas Tubelis, Oregon's Will Richardson and USC's Isaiah Mobley. The second-team selections, in addition to Campbell and Jaquez Jr., included Washington's Terrell Brown Jr., Arizona's Christian Koloko and Colorado's Jabari Walker.
UCLA has been ranked No. 11 in this week's AP top 25 poll and will open NCAA Tournament action this Thursday as the East Region's No. 4 seed. The Bruins (25-7) will face No. 13-seed Akron (24-9) on Thursday at the Moda Center in Portland. Game time is 6:50 p.m. PT (TV: TBS).
