Utes Fall to BYU in Tuesday Night Matchup
SALT LAKE CITY – Utah baseball fell to BYU by a 10-3 score on Tuesday night at Smith's Ballpark. The Utes (11-4-1) now turn their attention to resuming Pac-12 play with a three-game series at Oregon from March 18-20.
Chase Anderson and Landon Frei each had two hits for the Utes, and Davis Cop added a two-run double in the eighth inning. TJ Clarkson also reached base safely for the 14th consecutive game and Kai Roberts for the 12th straight contest.
BYU pulled out in front with three runs in the second inning, adding a pair in the third and three more in the fourth inning. The Cougars wrapped up their scoring with two runs in the top of the sixth.
Utah put up a three-spot in the bottom of the eighth, taking advantage of a bases-loaded situation. Frei singled with two outs, Anderson worked a four-pitch walk and Clarkson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A wild pitch brought Frei to the plate, then Cop sent a fly ball to deep center field that rolled to the wall for a two-run double.
On the mound, Bryce Robison (3-0) picked up the win for BYU, while David Watson (0-1) took the loss for Utah.
