BERKELEY – California men's tennis senior Yuta Kikuchi was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, the Conference announced Tuesday, after he clinched the Golden Bears' last two victories, including a win over No. 22 Utah in the Bears' Pac-12 opener.
On March 11 at the Hellman Tennis Complex, the 91st-ranked Kikuchi defeated Arthur Neuhaus at court-one singles to secure the Bears' 5-2 win over Santa Clara. Two days later in Berkeley, Kikuchi beat Utah's Franco Capalbo, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, at court-one singles, as the Bears prevailed 5-2 to start Pac-12 play 1-0.
With the two wins, the Yahaba, Japan, native improved his singles record to 16-9.
No. 43 Cal (7-3) returns to nonconference action when the Bears host Purdue on Wednesday, Yale on Saturday and Cal Poly on Sunday at Hellman.
