USC's Garret Guillemette Named to Buster Posey Award Watch List For Nation's Top Catcher
LOS ANGELES – USC baseball's Garret Guillemette was recently named to the watch list for the Buster Posey Award, given annually to the top catcher in college baseball.
He is one of 77 catchers to be named to the initial watch list for the prestigious award. Previously known as the Johnny Bench Award, the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award is voted on by head coaches and sports information directors at the Division I level.
Guillemette was named to the All-Pac-12 team as a freshman last season after hitting .299 with 19 RBI and 19 runs scored. He also hit three homers and 10 doubles, while catching seven runners stealing in 2021.
This season, the sophomore backstop is batting .275 with a pair of homers and a team-high 13 RBI, helping to lead the Trojans to an 11-4 start to the season.
Semifinalists for the award will be announced on May 19. Ballots will be sent to the national voting committee at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced on June 7. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced on June 29.
