Wildcats Welcome All Challengers at Arizona NIT
TUCSON, Ariz. – Two months after winning its other home tournament, the Arizona Intercollegiate, for a fifth consecutive year, Arizona Men's Golf will look the flip the script on its recent history at the Arizona NIT. The Wildcats will tee off on Friday, March 18 at Omni Tucson National while looking to win its home event for the first time since 2003. Arizona has strong team showings in events in 2022 with the win of its other home tournament and a runner-up finish at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai'i.
"We've had two great weeks of practice in Tucson in preparation for this tournament," said head coach Jim Anderson. "We've played a lot of quality golf throughout this season, and I am looking forward to seeing our lineup post some great scores at Omni. This is a first-class event with a great field of teams coming to Tucson at a marquee course, which builds the excitement around this weekend."
The Cats are looking to rewrite some of the program history at the Arizona NIT where the team has posted one top-three finish since 2012. Arizona's top individual finish in the last ten years was George Cunningham's runner-up performance in 2015.
Arizona has one tournament win in 2021-22 with a pair of runner-up finishes. Graduate senior Christian Banke, who won the Arizona Intercollegiate in January by a stroke, has the program's lowest scoring average going into the weekend at 70.38. Junior Chase Sienkiewicz has also notched strong performances throughout the season with three top-10 finishes that include runner-up at the Fighting Illini Invite.
The Arizona NIT will be played on the Catalina course at Omni Tucson National with 36 holes on Friday before Saturday's final round of 18. The event has a loaded field that includes seven programs ranked in the top 25 of the GolfStat rankings, including a quartet of programs in the top 10.
