Cal Hosts No. 15 USC Friday In Return To Pac-12 Action

CAL HOSTS NO. 15 USC FRIDAY IN RETURN TO PAC-12 ACTION
— Cal continues a three-game homestand by returning to Pac-12 play and hosting a No. 15 USC squad tied for first place in the league after capturing its first two conference games last Friday and Sunday at home against No. 23 Colorado and Oregon
— USC holds a 12-1 advantage in the all-time series and has won each of the last 12 meetings between the teams with the lone Cal win coming the first time the squads played on Apr. 12, 2013, in Los Angeles
— Cal nearly broke USC's win streak in the second and final meeting between the teams in Los Angeles in 2021, scoring twice in the final minute of regulation to send the game into overtime before falling, 12-11     
— Friday's forecast in Berkeley calls for a gametime temperature of 59 degrees with mostly cloudy skies and winds out of the southwest at 10 miles per hour.
  
ZACCARO CLOSING IN ON ALL-TIME CAL ASSIST AND GAMES PLAYED RECORDS
— Nikki Zaccaro is in her fifth season on the Cal roster and is closing in school records for assists and games played with her current total of 79 assists ranking her second and only four behind all-time Cal record holder Colleen O'Mara (83, 2001-04), while her 68 games played are seven shy of school record-holder Anna Ellest (75, 2017-21)
— Zaccaro is Cal's active leader in career games played, games started (58), points (137), goals (58), assists, shots (183) and shots on goal (119)
  
LAWLISS, SCOTT AND ZACCARO ALL POST RECENT BIG GAMES
— Maya Lawliss and Liz Scott have been Cal's scoring leaders in the last two games with Lawliss connecting for a career-high-tying four goals and A career-high five points Friday at Stanford while Scott had a career-high four goals Sunday at home against Liberty
— Nikki Zaccaro had the first five-assist game of her career Sunday against LIberty and also registered a goal to total six points 
    
STRONG STARTS
— Cal has started strong in three of its first seven games, holding a 3-2 lead early in the second quarter at Virginia, a 3-1 margin after the first quarter against San Diego State, and scoring three of the game's first four goals against UC Davis  

BEARS LEADING THEIR OPPONENTS AGAIN IN DRAW CONTROLS
— Cal is outdrawing its opponents for the fourth consecutive season with the Golden Bears holding a 101-96 advantage after outdrawing Liberty in their most recent game Sunday by a final count of 20-15 to make the fourth time in seven games this season that Cal has won more draw controls than its opponent

2022 DEDICATION GAMES
— Cal's will honor the late Duke lacrosse student-athlete Morgan Rodgers, who tragically passed away in 2019, with tee-shirts and a moment of silence for their "Morgan's Message" game when the Golden Bears host USC in their Pac-12 home opener Friday
— Morgan's Message strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletes, while aiming to expand the dialogue on mental health by normalizing conversations, empowering those who suffer in silence, and supporting those who feel alone
— Cal dedicated its February 26 game to the late Stephanie Smith, a former Cal lacrosse player who passed away from cancer in 2018
— Cal also has remaining 2022 dedication games to honor and recognize Oakland Lacrosse (April 1), Bears United (April 3 and 10) and One Love (April 23), with details of each still to be announced

— Riley Drullinger is second in the Pac-12 in saves (62) and saves per game (8.86)
— Cal has a pair of sisters on the roster (Caroline and Catherine Roxas; Kennedy and Quinnlyn Mason)
