Collins’ Big Day Not Enough For Ducks Against No. 25 Colorado

Mar 18, 2022

EUGENE, Ore. – Katie Collins scored a career-high four goals but Colorado scored six in a big second quarter and held off a late Oregon comeback to win 13-11 on Friday night.

Collins had a huge day for the Ducks even beyond her four goals. The junior midfielder grabbed five ground balls, three draw controls and went 2-for-2 on free-position attempts. Haley Taylor scored her first two career goals and Sydney Lawrence had three caused turnovers.

How it Happened: The game featured plenty runs from the two teams and the Buffaloes struck first with a 3-0 spurt to start the game.

Oregon tallied the next four scores, with two coming from Morgan McCarthy on free-position opportunities. Colorado countered with a pair of three-goal runs in the second quarter, broken up only by Taylor's first career goal with 5:21 left. The Buffaloes entered halftime with a 9-5 advantage.

The Ducks battled in the third and fourth quarters, winning both 3-2, but they were not able to make the big run required to tie or win the game late.

Late in the fourth quarter, Oregon got two goals in 30 seconds from Collins and Bailey Smith to get within two, but the Ducks turned the ball over on their next three possessions and Colorado ran out the clock to lock up the win.

Up Next: Oregon continues its four-game homestand on Sunday, March 20 against Marquette. The Ducks and Golden Eagles square off at 12 p.m.
