Henry Ikahihifo Signs NLI With Cal

Mar 18, 2022
Henry Ikahihifo was announced as the 18th member of Cal's 2022 recruiting class on Friday.

BERKELEY – Travers Family Head Football Coach Justin Wilcox announced Friday that Cal has signed outside linebacker/hybrid Henry Ikahihifo to a National Letter of Intent to increase the size of Cal's 2022 recruiting class to 18. Ikahihifo, who will arrive at Cal in June, played tight end as a member of the Nevada football program for two seasons (2019-20) before moving to defensive end at the College of the Canyons in 2021.

"Henry has a ton of upside and showed tremendous potential in his first season of college football on the defensive side of the ball last year," Wilcox said. "We're excited to see what he will be able to accomplish as he gets more reps on defense. Our strong athletic performance and nutrition programs should also help him to continue to develop rapidly, and combined with his previous college football experience, he should have an opportunity to make an impact quickly."

Cal's current 2022 recruiting class includes 10 offensive players (OL Jackson Brown, RB Ashton Hayes, QB Fernando Mendoza, OL Nick Morrow, RB Jaydn Ott, QB Jack Plummer, WR Jaiven Plummer, OL Trent Ramsey, WR Mason Starling, OL Sioape Vatikani) and eight on the defensive side of the ball (DL Nate Burrell, DE Xavier Carlton, DB Jeremiah Earby, Ikahihifo, CB Cam Sidney, ILB Jackson Sirmon, EDGE Curlee Thomas IV, OLB Nunie Tuitele).

The Lancaster native becomes the 13th member (Brown, Burrell, Carlton, Earby, Ikahihifo, Hayes, Morrow, Ott, Jack Plummer, Sidney, Starling, Tuitele, Vatikani) of the current 18-player class to list a hometown in the football print of Pac-12 schools including seven from California (Brown, Burrell, Carlton, Earby, Ikahihifo, Ott, Sidney).

Further additions to the 2022 Cal football recruiting class are expected via the transfer portal and/or during the current regular signing period that started Feb. 2 with National Signing Day and runs through Apr. 1.

Cal has five mid-year enrollees in the class (Carlton, Ott, Jack Plummer, Sirmon and Starling) who started classes at Cal in the spring of 2022 and are expected to participate in the Golden Bears' upcoming spring practices that began April 6. The remaining members of the class are expected to join the program prior to the team's 2022 season with the majority to arrive on campus in June.
