Oregon State Takes 12th At 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships

Mar 19, 2022

DETROIT, Mich. – Grant Willits took fourth at 141 pounds, Hunter Willits seventh at 157 and Brandon Kaylor (125 pounds) and Devan Turner (133) eighth at their respective weight classes as Oregon State wrestling completed its 2021-22 season Saturday at the NCAA Championships.
All four guaranteed themselves All-American honors on Friday, and the quartet are the most in a single year for the Beavers since the 1995 team tallied four.
Oregon State ended the 2022 NCAA Championships 12th overall, totaling 44.5 points. That spot is Oregon State's best finish since the 2013 Beavers took eighth.
Grant Willits is the first Beaver to earn All-America honors at 141 since Mike Mangrum in 2012. Willits went 5-2 in Detroit, and was 1-1 on Saturday. He defeated No. 6 Cole Matthews of Pittsburgh to advance to the third-round match. He, however, was edged 6-5 by Rutgers' Sebastian Rivera in that bout. Willits finished the season at 29-7.
Hunter Willits did not wrestle on Saturday as North Carolina's Austin O'Connor, seeded 11th, forfeited. Willits finished 4-2 in Detroit. He is the first Beaver to earn All-America honors at 157 since RJ Pena finished fifth in 2013. Willits was 17-8 in 2021-22.
Kaylor ended his trip at 3-3, dropping the seventh-place match to No. 6 Eric Barnett of Wisconsin via a fall. He joins recent Beaver Ronnie Bresser as All-Americans at 125. Bresser finished seventh in 2018 and eighth in 2019. Kaylor posted a 22-7 record in 2021-22.
Turner ended his Oregon State career with a 4-3 showing in Detroit. He lost to No. 10 Chris Cannon (Northwestern) on Saturday, but picked up his second career All-American honor. Turner's first came in the Covid-19 shortened 2019-2020 season. Turner was 25-9 in 2021-22, and ended his career with 89 wins, which ties him for 31st in the Oregon State all-time record books.
