Women's Tennis Falls to #24 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – The Utah women's tennis team fell short to No. 24 Stanford on Sunday. The Utes were defeated 7-0.  

"This was a difficult but important weekend for us," remarked head coach Ric Mortera. "We will be taking a hard, honest look at ourselves and the things we need to improve on to be successful in the future. I don't believe this weekend is indicative of the level we have been playing at the majority of the year. We will look to learn and come back stronger from this. We will have some time to recover and then back to work to prepare for our next opportunities that are right around the corner this coming weekend."
 
The Utah team, Katya Hersh/ Anya Lamoreaux, finished first in doubles, who was defeated by Stanford team Ana Geller/Niluka Madurawe, 6-3. Emily Dush and Anastasia Goncharova, ranked 54th in the ITA doubles rankings, was defeated by No. 7 Blake/Ma, 6-3. Linda Huang and Madison Tattini's match was left unfinished, but they were tied with their opponents, 5-5.
 
Finishing first in singles, Dush went head to head with No. 14 Alexandra Yepifanova and lost 6-0, 6-2. Madeline Lamoreaux also lost to opponent Sara Choy, 6-1, 6-2. Huang, ranked 97th, was defeated by Stanford player Connie Ma who is No. 11, 6-0, 6-2. With those three Utah losses, Stanford clinched the match.
 
Lindsay Hung lost to Stanford's Angelica Blake, 6-1, 6-2. Tattini took on No. 86 Valencia Xu. Tattini lost her first set, 6-1, and was narrowly defeated in the second 6-4. In the last match of the day, Goncharova lost to India Houghton, 6-2, 6-2.
