Mar 21, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO – California freshman infielder Acacia Anders has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after a standout weekend during the Bears' series victory over No. 7 Washington.

Anders blasted a walk off home run in Cal's 4-3 win over the Huskies on Saturday, March 19, part of a season-best 4-for-4 day at the plate with two RBI. The Vacaville native wasn't done as she hit a 2-run home run on Sunday, March 20, tying the game at two runs apiece as Cal went on for a 6-5 victory in the contest to take the three-game series.

Playing a strong third base all season, Anders helped the Bears turn one of four double plays over the course of the weekend on Friday and had four putouts with seven assists. Anders is hitting .315 on the season with five home runs and six doubles along with 11 RBI.

Anders is the first California player to be named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week since Lindsay Rood earned the honor on May 2, 2016 and first Cal player to earn a conference weekly honor since Rood was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on March 12, 2019.
