Women's Golf Sits in Third Place after Two Rounds at the Fresno State Classic
FRESNO, Calif. – The Washington State women's golf team sits in third place after two rounds of play at the 2022 Fresno State Classic. The Cougars have carded 12-over; 588 through 36 holes of play at the Belmont Country Club. The Cougars have a total of four golfers sitting inside the top-20 on the player leaderboard heading into the finale round.
WSU opened the day by shooting 4-over par; 292 in the first round. The Cougars sat in second place heading into the tournament's second round, where they cared 8-over par; 296. The Cougars head into the final round of the Fresno State Classic in third, five strokes behind Hawai'i for first place. Washington State has collected the second-most birdies in the tournament through 36 holes of play with 25.
Junior Jiye Ham paces WSU, as she shot 2-over; 146 on Monday, March 21, to end the day in a tie for seventh. The Bangkok, Thailand native shot even par in the second round to shave two strokes off her tournament score.
Redshirt freshman Jinyu Wu and senior Darcy Habgood are tied for 11th on the player leaderboard, as each WSU golfer has carded 3-over; 147.
Wu is tied for the tournament lead with three other golfers in par-3 scoring. The Shanghai, China native is shooting 2-under on par-3's. Wu has also collected a tournament-best nine birdies through 36 holes of play.
Freshman Sarah Skovgaard-Bils ended her day one-stroke behind Habgood and Wu, going into Tuesday's third round in a tie for 19th. The Virum, Denmark native, who is playing in her second tournament with the Cougs, is shooting 4-over; 148.
The Cougars open the third round of the 2022 Fresno State Classic five strokes behind tournament-leader Hawai'i. The Rainbow Wahine are carding 7-over; 583 after two rounds of play. Fresno State's Jessica Hall sits atop the player leaderboard heading into Tuesday's finale after shooting 4-under; 140.
