Huskies Put Away Rebels By 4-1 Count

Mar 22, 2022

LAS VEGAS – Youth was served in the lower part of the Husky singles lineup today as the men's squad posted a 4-1 road win over UNLV at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The 40th-ranked Huskies had singles wins from freshmen Cesar Bouchelaghem and Rikuto Yamaguchi, and sophomore Han-Chih Lin to move past the Rebels.
Washington improved to 12-4 on the season as it spends this first part of spring break in Las Vegas before heading to Utah this weekend for a key Pac-12 showdown. It was the first match for the Dawgs in eleven days.
"A positive day," said Head Coach Matt Anger. "Real solid in doubles at one and two. On the first day back and on the road it's not easy but we did all right. In singles, we were playing with freshmen at four, five and six, and Hans is still just a sophomore, but they all did well. Hans got a win and Cesar rattled off ten games in a row. Riku cluinched the match and Nedim was up a set."
Bouchelaghem trailed 3-5 in his first set against Milos Dabic before he came back to win the final four games of that set, and then he won the second set, 6-0, for a streak of ten straight games.
Lin finished a 6-2, 6-4 win over Zac Brodney at No. 3 singles to make it 3-0 Dawgs. UNLV got one point at No. 1 singles, as 87th-ranked Ewen Lumsden fell, 6-2, 6-4, to 76th-ranked Christopher Bulus. But Yamaguchi, playing his first match since Jan. 25, closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Anton Ornberg at sixth singles.
Jack Davis was at 2-1 in a third set against Jordan Sauer at No. 2 singles and Suko was up 7-6 (5), 2-2, in his match at No. 5 singles with Zach Garner when the match was ended.
The Huskies rested third-ranked junior Clement Chidekh in singles, but Chidekh contributed to doubles play, where he and Suko clinched the point with a 6-1 win over Dabic/Brodney at the No. 2 spot. That came after Brandon Wong and Jack Davis also had a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles over UNLV's Atherton/Sauer.
The Huskies will stay in Las Vegas for a neutral site match against Northern Arizona on Thursday at 10 a.m.
