Fresh off a convincing sweep of WSU at home last weekend, the Huskies head to the desert to face Arizona State at Phoenix Municipal Stadium in hopes of improving on their 4-2 Pac-12 record. ASU was outscored in last weekend's series at Oregon State 34-5, but showed a fight in their ability to take the final game of the series 3-1. Returning home, ASU will be looking to build on that momentum so the Dawgs will have their work cut out for them.
How To Follow
Games will be streamed via Pac-12 Washington as follows: Game One (https://gohski.es/3D9TmiP), Game Two (https://gohski.es/3tzrnWJ), and Game Three (https://gohski.es/3wwzwwR). Live stats will be available via GoHuskies.com and fans can also follow @UW_Baseball on social media to track the action.
If history is any indication, the Huskies will have their hands full this weekend as the Sun Devils hold a 37-24 edge in the series since 2000. Their last matchup was a 13-6 win however, with Will Simpson going 3-4 with 3 runs, a double, and a triple. They ultimately lost the series however, being closely outscored by the Sun Devils 16-17.
Scouting The Huskies
Head coach Lindsay Meggs has a re-loaded roster for 2022, featuring 23 newcomers, including 10 JUCO transfers, 10 true freshmen, and three four-year college transfers.
RHPs Jared Engman, Calvin Kirchoff, and Case Matter make up the weekend's rotation once again, following solid performances last week. Kirchoff, in particular, was lights out retiring 19 straight batters at one point and giving up zero hits through six and two thirds innings. In relief, look for quick work from Stefan Raeth who leads the team by almost double with 38 strike outs and an opponent batting average of just .107.
On offense, Redshirt Sophomore C Johnny Tincher has been absolutely on fire this season leading the team with a .380 batting average, .606 SLG%, 1.056 OPS, and 27 hits. He shares the lead in doubles at 7 with 3B Michael Snyder who notched his first homerun of the season last Sunday. Coby Morales is another player to keep an eye on leading the team with 11 hits and a .440 average during Pac-12 play. SS Cam Clayton is also leading the team during this same recent span batting .391 with a 1.071 OPS, .696 SLG%, and 16 total bases.
Scouting the Sun Devils
Arizona State welcomes a new skipper this season - a name Seattle baseball fans will recognize. Head Coach Willie Bloomquist hails from Port Orchard, WA and spent 9 season in a Seattle Mariners uniform (2002-08, '14-15).
RHPs Kyle Luckham and Tyler Meyer get the nod on the mound in Games One and Two (Game Three TBD). Their numbers are very similar with both having an ERA just over 4.00 to go along with 30 and 29 strikeouts respectively.
At the plate, IF Sean McLain leads the team batting .329 and shares 20 runs with OF Joe Lampe (.310) who earned many of them with his team-leading 6 homeruns. IF Conor Davis and IF Ethan Long are both hovering around the .300 mark and lead the team with 16 RBIs.
