STANFORD, Calif. – Freshmen Jose Islas and Eric Doyle led the Ducks in the opening round of The Goodwin, played Thursday at Stanford Golf Course.
Islas carded a career-best 67 in the first round. He had five birdies and was tied for 16th individually at 3-under. Islas birdied two of the last three holes.
Doyle shot an even-par 70 and was tied for 58th. The Ducks also counted a 72 from Nate Stamber and a 73 from Owen Avrit.
In the team standings, the Ducks were 18th at 2-over 282.
Notable: With 28 teams in the field, this is the largest tournament the Ducks will play in during the regular season.
