Mar 24, 2022

AUSTIN – The University of Colorado track and field program wrapped up the second day of the 94th annual Texas Relays here Thursday, led by Avery McMullen concluding the sixth-best heptathlon in CU history.

Fresh off her All-American finish indoors in the pentathlon, McMullen put together a stellar heptathlon finishing ninth overall with 5,495 points. She had personal bests in the final two events, the javelin by nearly a meter at 33.39 meters, and in the 800-meter run by two seconds at 2:22 flat.

The next event for the Buffs was the 400 hurdles with both men and women competing. The women's prelims went first with freshman Emma Pollak leading the way in 59.43 seconds. Her mark is good for ninth in CU history in her second race. Abbey Glynn was right behind her in the standings, finishing 15th in 59.66 seconds.

The men followed with Garrett Nelson leading the Buffaloes out of the University/College Timed Finals. He won his heat in 52.20 to finish third overall in the division. In his same heat, teammate Kellen Monestime ran 54.17 to finish 14th overall. Aaron McCoy competed in the prelims of the Texas Relays division, finishing 17th overall with a time of 52.21 seconds.

The final competitor of the day and only field event athlete entered for Colorado was Jada Green in the women's javelin. Green opened up the competition bombing a 45.17 meter (148-2) toss which put her in fourth after the first round. She entered finals in the sixth position but finished eighth with her best throw being her first.

Colorado will complete competition at the Texas Relays tomorrow with Luc Andrada as the only athlete in an individual event. The rest of the athletes will compete in the 4x400 for both genders and the 4x100-meter relay for the men.
