Michaela Morard Nabs Share Of First, Leads USC Women's Golf At Liz Murphey Collegiate Opener
Sophomore Michaela Morard fired a 2-under 70 to earn a share of first to lead the No. 8 USC women's golf team in the first round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate on Friday (March 25) at the University of Georgia G.C. in Athens.
USC, looking for its third win this season and its third win at the event, combined for an 11-over 299. Wake Forest and Texas A&M are tied for first at 5-over 293.
Morard pocketed her fifth round of par or better in her last 10 outings to tie for second overall at 2-under. Morard, looking to post her third top 11 in her last four events, went out at even with three birdies and came home flawlessly at 2-under with two more birdies.
Freshman Amari Avery carded a 1-over 73 and is tied for 12th. She is seeking her fifth straight top 10 to start her career.
Sophomore Brianna Navarrosa completed her round at 3-over 75, good for a tie for 26th. She finished her final eight holes at par.
Senior Katherine Muzi posted a 9-over 81, tied for 69th while freshman Xin (Cindy) Kou also had a challenging round, finishing at 12-over 84.
USC tees off at 6:32 a.m. PT Saturday in the second round with the final round scheduled for Sunday.
