Utah Downs No. 44 Oregon, 4-0
SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 35 Utah men's tennis team opened the weekend with a 4-0 victory over No. 44 Oregon Ducks. After an exciting set of doubles matches that placed the Utes in the lead, the squad moved into singles and took the victory.
In doubles, matches against the Ducks were a lively sight. On court two, Francisco Bastias and Bruno Caula swept the Duck duo 6-0. On courts one and three, scores were close, but the point was ultimately decided on court one. No. 22 ranked doubles duo of Franco Capalbo/Geronimo Espin Busleiman downed the No. 25 ranked team of Joshua Charlton/Quinn Vandecasteele 6-4, awarding the Utes with their first point. On court three, Mathias Gavelin and Jayson Blando were tied 4-4 but didn't finish their match.
During singles, Bruno Krenn was the first to claim a victory. On court six, Krenn defeated Oregon's Avi Shugar 6-3, 6-2, awarding the Utes their second point. The third point came on court two, where Bastias downed his opponent 6-4, 6-1. The match point came on court three after Espin Busleiman downed his opponent 6-1, 7-6 (3).
On court one, Capalbo had taken the first set 6-4 and was trailing 5-6 in the second. On court five, Gavelin had won the first set in a close tiebreaker, 7-6 (9), and was leading 5-4 in the second set before the match clinched in Utah's favor.

On Sunday, the Utes return to action when they host Washington in Pac-12 action. The match will start at 12 p.m. MT from the George S. Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City.
