TEMPE, Ariz. – Behind a season-best round of 70 from junior Gile Bite Starkute, Arizona shot 3-over par in Saturday's second round of the ASU Invitational to move up to eighth place at 10-over par. The Wildcats improved their team score by four strokes from its opening round and sit within 10 strokes of the next three teams ahead of them on the leaderboards.
"I thought we were more steady and more consistent as a team today," said head coach Laura Ianello. "We got off to a strong start on the back nine and faded a little bit after the turn, which is something we can work at for tomorrow's final round. If we continue our consistent play on Sunday, we will be able to move up."
Arizona's second-lowest round on Saturday came from senior Ya Chun Chang who shot even par. Starkute's 2-under second round put her in a tie for 27th for the tournament. Freshman Lilas Pinthier, who carded second consecutive rounds of 73, sits four spots behind Starkute in a tie for 31st at 2-over.
The Wildcats will round out their final in-state tournament of the regular season on Sunday and look to chase down UCLA and Oregon State in the team standings.
