Avery, Morard Inside Top 15 Heading Into Final Round At Liz Murphey Collegiate
Freshman Amari Avery carded her second consecutive 1-over 73 to move into the top 10 while senior Katherine Muzi turned in a 2-over 74 to lead No. 8 USC women's golf team during a wind-driven second round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate on Saturday (March 26) at the University of Georgia G.C. in Athens.
USC combined for an 18-over second round and now stand at 29-over 605 (299-306) in seventh. South Carolina leads the event at 10-over.
Avery, who has started her career with four straight top 8 finishes, has put herself in position to post another. At 2-over 146 (73-73), she is tied for sixth and just two shots out of first and among eight players within three shots of two golfers tied at par. Avery had four birdies on the round, including three on an even first nine.
Sophomore Michaela Morard began the day tied for first at 2-under and despite not matching her impressive day one results, is still inside the top 15, tied for 12th at 5-over 149 (70-79). Morard, vying for her third top 20, went out at 6-over but came home at 1-over.
Muzi (81-74) and sophomore Brianna Navarrosa (75-80) are tied for 42nd at 11-over 155. Muzi went out at 2-over and came back at par.
Freshman Xin (Cindy) Kou stands at 20-over 164 (84-80), tied for 73rd.
