Mar 26, 2022

STANFORD, Calif. – The Washington State men's golf team wrapped up The Goodwin by finishing 16th on the team leaderboard, as the Cougars posted a three-round score of 846 (+6).

WSU had two golfers finish inside the top-40 on the player leaderboard at The Goodwin. Sophomore Jaden Cantafio carded 1-under par; 209 to end the tournament tied for 35th. The Tustin, California native concluded his three-day stay at the Stanford Golf Course by shooting 1-over; 71 in the third round.

Junior Pono Yanagi carded a team-best even-par; 70 in Saturday's third round. It was the third-straight round that Yanagi shot even par, as he concluded the tournament with a score of 210 (E) to finish tied for 40th. Redshirt senior Max Sekulic ended The Goodwin in a tie for 57th by posting a three-round score 2-over par; 212.

"I felt like we played better than what the score showed this week," said WSU Head Coach Dustin White. "We just had a hard time putting our nines together and getting all five guys to break out on the same day. We still have some growing to do and weeks like this remind us of that. We've had one round that seems to get us and need to learn how to play through it and piece it together. We've got time before our last couple events and will use all our experiences so far this year to guide us to a strong finish. I'm excited about what we have ahead."

Washington State concluded The Goodwin by carding 288 (+8) in the third round. WSU posted a three-round score of 281-277-288 to finish the tournament at 6-over; 846.

Washington claimed the team title at The Goodwin by carding 22-under par; 818. Nevada's Peyton Callens captured the tournament's individual title by finishing The Goodwin with a three-round score of 197 (-13).

The Cougars will be back in action April 22-23, as Washington State heads to Provo, Utah to play in the PING Cougar Classic, hosted by BYU.
