Stanford Drops Series
CORVALLIS, Ore. – No. 25 Stanford softball dropped the series against Oregon State on Saturday, falling to the Beavers 4-1 at Kelly Field. The loss drops the Cardinal to 20-8 on the season and 0-2 in Pac-12 play.
Oregon State (25-7, 2-3 Pac-12) took the lead in the bottom of the second on a solo home run from Madison Simon, while Mariah Mazon was able to retire the Cardinal order through five innings unscathed.
Stanford tied the game in a thrilling sixth inning, but it was unable to take the lead. Hannah Matteson came on to run after Aly Kaneshiro reached on an error to second base. Matteson advanced to second on a Chloe Doyle sacrifice bunt, and she scored on a RBI double to the fence from Sydney Steele to tie the game up.
With runners on first and third and only one out Stanford's rally was stopped short after Steele was thrown out on the basepaths during a double steal attempt. Oregon State responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, and the Cardinal was unable to respond with any runs in the seventh.
Stanford looks to claim a game in the series tomorrow at noon. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Bay Area.
