Bears Drop Series Finale Against No. 12 Ducks

Mar 27, 2022

EUGENE, Ore. – California got home runs from Sona Halajian and Amani Bradley in a back-and-forth 8-7 loss to No. 12 Oregon on Sunday at Jane Sanders Stadium.

The Bears (21-12, 3-3 Pac-12) had the tying run at third and the go-ahead run at second, but the Ducks (24-5, 4-2 Pac-12) were able to escape the jam and take the rubber match of the series with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Cal jumped on the Ducks right away in the first, recording three straight hits to start the game. Acacia Anders and Tatum Anzaldo led off with singles to left before Halajian crushed a 3-run home run over the extended netting in left field, her third long ball of the series and 11th of the season.

The Bears kept Oregon off the board in the bottom half of the inning by throwing Hanna Delgado out at home in a 1st and 3rd situation when she tried to steal home. UO was able to put a run on the board in the third on a hit and a wild pitch and made it 3-2 after four with a solo home run.

Halajian helped herself out in the fifth by hitting a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Bradley after she doubled to leadoff the inning and moved to third on an error. Leading 4-2 heading to the bottom half, Oregon tied it with two runs on a hit and a sac fly as the game went to the sixth at 4-4.

Bradley put the Bears right back in front, 6-4, with her first-career home run over the wall in right center, but Oregon scored four runs on four hits in the home half to take their first lead of the day at 8-6. California loaded the bases with two walks and a hit by pitch in the seventh before Hope Alley came through with an RBI single to make it 8-7, but a strikeout ended the game with the tying run at third base.
