No. 23 Oregon State Travels to Bay Area for Saint Mary's, Cal Series

THIS WEEK
• The 23-rd ranked Oregon State softball team continues Pac-12 play this weekend at California for a three-game series with the Golden Bears, April 1-3. Prior to the conference clash, the Beavers play a single game tilt at Saint Mary's on Thursday, March 31, at 3 p.m. PT in Moraga, Calif. Friday's game at Cal begins at 3 p.m. PT. Saturday's game begins at 1 p.m. PT followed by the series finale at 12 p.m. PT on Sunday. All conference games will be available on Cal's live stream.

SCOUTING THE SAINT MARY'S GAELS
• The Gaels hold a 10-15 overall record heading into the weekend, splitting their last four games. Saint Mary's is hitting .234 as a team with 27 extra base hits, averaging just 3.16 runs per game.
• Alex Casas is first on the team in batting average (.333), hits (25) and is second with 11 RBIs. Indya Smith leads the team with 13 runs batted in after 16 total hits in 60 appearances.  Marissa Nishihara is second on the team with 31 hits and a batting average of .276 with a team-leading three triples.
• Sofia Earle holds the lowest ERA for the Gaels with a 2.37 to go along with a team-best 77 strikeouts, going 5-4 in the circle this season in 12 starts. Kayla Scott is the other pitcher with at least two wins for SMC in 52 1/3 innings.

SCOUTING THE CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS
• California brings a 21-12 overall record and 3-3 conference record into the Pac-12 weekend, earning a run-rule win at No. 12 Oregon last week in the series opener on Friday. The Golden Bears are hitting .303 as a team with 41 home runs and 43 doubles, averaging 5.73 runs per game.
• Makena Smith leads the team with a .446 batting average and is tied for third on the team in hits (34). Sona Halajian is tied with Oregon State Beaver Frankie Hammoude with 11 home runs this season, averaging .391 and a team-best 33 RBIs. Tatum Anzaldo is leading the Bears with 50 total hits, including six doubles and has gone yard on four different occasions.
• From the circle, Sona Halajian leads Cal after tossing 91 1/3 innings thus far, holding a 13-3 record and a 3.14 ERA with 81 strikeouts. Haylei Archer has proven to be the No. 2 pitcher with 76 frames under her belt. Archer has six wins in 16 appearances with a 3.13 ERA and 56 strikeouts.

THE SERIES: OREGON STATE VS. CALIFORNIA
• California leads the all-time series with Oregon State 86-45 as the Beavers are 11-12 under head coach Laura Berg. OSU heads into Berkeley with a two-game winning streak over the Golden Bears.
• Last season, the Orange & Black took home three of the four-game series. During the 2019 season, Oregon State clinched the series victory in Berkeley after winning the first two games.

BEAVERS AT A GLANCE
• Oregon State jumped back into the rankings this week after clinching the Pac-12 home series opener with No. 25 Stanford this past weekend. The Beavers took game one and two before the Cardinal got one back in the series finale during the 1-0 pitcher's duel.
• Freshman Sarah Haendiges earned the pitcher's duel win in game one, allowing just three hits and struck out a career-best nine after facing 25 Cardinal batters. Frankie Hammoude led the offense with a 2-for-2 performance.
• In OSU's win on Saturday, Hammoude hit her eleventh shot of the season to move into third place in the Beaver career home run list. In her first circle appearance since March 7, senior Mariah Mazon struck out six and allowed just one hit in the complete game. 
• With the weekend, Oregon State improves to 25-8 overall and 2-4 during Pac-12 play.  
• Freshman Kiki Escobar leads all players with 43 hits, batting .350 after starting in all 33 games. Freshman counterpart Eliana Gottlieb is third on the team with 32 hits, having gone yard five different times with six doubles. Hammoude holds an impressive .888 slugging percentage this season with 35 hits, including 14 extra base hits that is highlighted by a team-best 11 home runs.
• As a team, the Beavers average a .305 average with 41 home runs from eight different Beavers. Oregon State averages 5.73 runs per game led by Gottlieb's 26 runs.

ON DECK
• The Beavers return home next weekend for a Pac-12 series showdown with No. 19/24 Arizona. The three-game tilt is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 8 at 6 p.m. PT, continues on Saturday, April 9 at 4:00 p.m. PT and concludes on Sunday, April 10 at 11:00 a.m. PT.
