Daccord Named AHL Goaltender of the Month

Apr 1, 2022

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Sun Devil Hockey alum Joey Daccord recorded a stunning month with the American Hockey League's Charlotte Checkers and has been named the AHL's Goaltender of the Month, as announced by the league on Friday.

Daccord played seven games during March, going 6-1-0-0 with a 1.55 goals-against average and a .956 save percentage.

After winning just once in February, Daccord began the month with a 33-save effort to backstop the Checkers to a 5-2 victory at Lehigh Valley on March 5. He made 27 saves as Charlotte earned a 3-1 win at Texas on March 8, then registered a career-high 44 stops in a 5-1 win over Springfield on March 11. He totaled 76 saves on 79 shots in back-to-back shootout victories over Providence on March 17 and March 19 and was on the losing end of a 1-0 decision at Cleveland on March 25 despite making 26 saves. Daccord finished his month by turning aside 33 shots in a 6-3 win at Cleveland on March 27.

Daccord ranks second in the AHL with a .926 save percentage and sixth in the league with a 2.33 GAA, posting a 15-10-2 record in 28 appearances for Charlotte this season. He also played four games in the NHL with the Seattle Kraken in 2021-22.

The honor from the AHL marks the fourth time in franchise history that a Checkers netminder has been named Goaltender of the Month, with Daccord joining Alex Nedeljkovic (Jan. 2019 & March 2019) and Tom McCollum (March 2017) as recipients of the honor.

A third-year pro out of Arizona State University, Daccord has appeared in 54 career games in the AHL with Charlotte and Belleville, compiling a record of 30-18-4 with a 2.56 GAA, a .918 save percentage and one shutout.

Daccord played for the maroon and gold from 2016-19 before becoming the first Arizona State player to sign an NHL entry-level contract (Ottawa Senators) on April 1, 2019, and the first to play in an NHL game against the Buffalo Sabres on April 4, 2019. Daccord was selected from Ottawa by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft on July 12, 2021. The Charlotte Checkers are the AHL affiliate team of the Seattle Kraken.
