No. 11 Huskies Open Arizona Series with 12-7 Win

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 11 Washington softball program took game one of the three-game series in a back-and-forth battle with No. 19 Arizona, 12-7. The Huskies improve to 21-10 on the season and 2-5 in Pac-12 play.
Gabbie Plain got the start in the circle, tossing 4.2 innings with four strikeouts. Brooke Nelson came on and pitched in relief to pick up her fourth win of the season.
The Wildcats struck first in the third inning on an RBI single by Allie Skaggs for the 1-0 lead.
Olivia Johnson responded on the first pitch of the fourth inning with a leadoff home run to tie the game back up.
Arizona retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run homer by Paige Dimler for the 3-1 advantage.
In the top of the fifth, the Huskies brought in four runs on four hits to take a 5-3 lead. The inning was highlighted by Johnson's second home run of the game, a two-run shot out to left center field that gave the Huskies their second lead of the game.
The Wildcats tied up the game at five on its second home run of the game, a two-run homer by Carlie Scupin. Arizona's third lead of the game came on back-to-back RBI singles for the 7-5 lead.
The Huskies responded once again and put up a seven spot in the sixth inning to take a 12-7 lead.
Pat Moore came in and tossed scoreless innings to complete the series-opening win for Washington.
The series continues on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. first pitch at Mike Candrea Field at Rita Hillenbrand Stadium. The game will air on Pac-12 Networks.

Half of Washington's runs (6) came on home runs.
The Huskies scored 10 runs with two-outs.
