Apr 2, 2022

LOS ANGELES – Senior Savanna Ly-Nguyen provided the lone bright spot for the Cougars as No. 15 UCLA posted a 6-1 victory over Washington State Saturday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Ly-Nguyen outlasted Sasha Vagramov at No. 2 in a marathon first set, winning in a tiebreaker. After racing to a 5-0 lead in the second, Vagramov recorded a break of serve but could get no closer as Ly-Nguyen closed out a 7-6, 6-2 win to give WSU (6-12, 1-6 Pac-12) it's only victory of the match.
UCLA (10-3, 6-0) opened the day with a pair of doubles victories to take the opening point.
In singles action, the Bruins won five of six matches, all in straight sets, to clinch the team victory. At No. 1, UCLA's Abbey Forbes, ranked No. 47 nationally, closed out a 6-1, 6-4 win over No. 91 Michaela Bayerlova. Kimmie Hance, ranked No. 125, cruised past Maxine Murphy, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3 while Elise Wagle defeated Hania Abouelsaad, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4.
