Dawgs Take Down Ducks But Broncos Win Finale

Apr 2, 2022

BOISE, Idaho – Washington got some Pac-12 payback in its first match of the day with a win over the Oregon Ducks, but couldn't make it two-for-two as Boise State beat the Beach Dawgs in the weekend finale on the Broncos' home courts. Audra Wilmes and Paloma Bowman had a 2-0 day in the No. 4 spot for the Huskies.

Washington turned around the result from a week ago in Tucson as UW defeated the Ducks by a 4-1 score today.

Oregon won the first match at No. 2 but then Bowman and Wilmes earned a big comeback win at No. 4, 17-21, 21-15, 15-9 to even things up and the Huskies cruised from there.

Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen improved to 11-4 on the season at No. 1 with a 21-13, 21-19 win over Nuneviller/Hope to make it 2-1, and then Emma Calle and Hannah Yerex clinched with a 21-17, 21-8 win at No. 5. The last point also went to the Dawgs, with Ashley Shook and Maeve Griffin scoring a 21-18, 22-20 win at No. 3.

Boise State

Taking on the Broncos for the second day in a row, the Huskies made a lineup switch with Loreen unable to go. Rather than mix up all the lineups, Olivia Mikkelsen stepped into the No. 1 spot with Robinson. The pair hung right in with the top Boise State duo, but fell just a couple points short each set, 21-18, 21-19.

Wilmes and Bowman got their second three-set win of the day at No. 4, saving three match points to beat Mejia/O'Neil, 21-19, 17-21, 18-16.

The Broncos had a 2-1 lead but UW was tight in the two remaining matches. Shook and Griffin needed to win their second set to force a third, and they held a 20-17 lead, but the BSU pair of Boss/Nichols made a late run to take the set, 23-21, to clinch the dual. At that point Emma Calle and Hannah Yerex were midway through their third set at No. 5. Boise State's Benson/Guerra-Acuna were able to pull out the set, 17-15, for the final 4-1 margin.
