Wisz, Curo Homer in Bruins' 5-2 Win to Clinch Oregon Series
LOS ANGELES – Delanie Wisz and Seneca Curo blasted a pair of two-run homers to lift the No. 3 UCLA softball team to a 5-2 victory over No. 12 Oregon at Easton Stadium on Saturday night, securing the Bruins' third consecutive series victory.
Redshirt senior Holly Azevedo threw 6.1 innings and struck out six batters on the way to picking up her 13th victory of the season, two shy of matching her season-high of 15 set as a freshman in 2015.
UCLA (30-3, 8-0 Pac-12) is now riding a 23-game winning streak.
Wisz went 2-for-2 at the plate, knocking in the Bruins' first three runs of the game. Wisz put the Bruins on the board with a two-run opposite field home run in the first inning for her eight longball of the season. In the bottom of the third, Wisz singled to the right field corner to score Lauryn Carter from second base.
Wisz is now 7-for-9 in UCLA's last five games.
Seneca Curo padded the Bruins' lead the next inning with her first home run of the season to left-center field.
The Ducks' (24-7, 4-4 Pac-12) two runs came in the third and fifth innings. KK Humphreys crossed home plate before UCLA turned a 6-3-2-5-2-4 double play to tag out Kai Luschar in a pickle to end the third. Hannah Delgado knocked in the other Oregon run with a single down the third base line to score Humphreys again.
UCLA goes for its third consecutive Pac-12 sweep of the season against Oregon tomorrow at Easton Stadium at 12 p.m. PT.
