Cats Tee Off in Pac-12 Tune Up at Silverado Showdown

Apr 3, 2022

NAPA, Calif. – In its final tournament before the Pac-12 Championships, Arizona Women's Golf will return to the Silverado Showdown for the first time since the 2017-18 season when it finished tied for third. The event's field makes the tournament a prologue to the Pac-12 Championships as every conference program is a participant.

"As one of our final tournaments of the season, I am looking forward to our entire lineup showing the growth and development of this entire year," said head coach Laura Ianello. "We've gone through a lot of change in the lineup and roster throughout the year, and I think we are in a good place to put together another strong showing."

The Wildcat lineup will regain freshman Carolina Melgrati this week after she missed the ASU Invitational to participate in the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur in Georgia.

Melgrati has the team's lowest scoring average for the season at 73.50 and just ahead of junior Gile Bite Starkute who is compiling the best season of her collegiate career. Joining Melgrati and Starkute to round out the Arizona lineup is sophomore Maya Benita and the freshman duo of Lilas Pinthier and Caitlin Whitehead.

The entirety of Pac-12 women's golf programs will be joined by BYU, Iowa State, Northwestern, San Jose State and TCU. Played annually at the Silverado Spa & Resort in Napa, California, the teams will take on the 6,192-yard course with par of 72.
