Oregon State Edged By Stanford In Series Finale
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Third-ranked Oregon State jumped out to an early five-run lead but Stanford scored eight unanswered runs as the Beavers dropped an 8-5 decision to the Cardinal Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Garret Forrester went 2-for-3 for the Beavers, driving in runs in the first on a single and third on a bases-loaded walk. Oregon State (20-7 overall, 7-5 Pac-12 Conference) scored four in the third, three on bases-loaded walks and one on a passed ball.
The Cardinal (14-9, 6-6), however, answered with three in the top half of the fourth and three more in the sixth to take a one-run advantage. A Tommy Troy double in the eighth pushed Stanford's lead to three.
Quinn Mathews, who struck out 10 in seven innings of relief, picked up the win to improve to 4-1. He allowed three hits and a run with four walks. Mitchell Verburg was charged with the loss after allowing two hits and three runs in an inning of relief. He is now 2-3 on the year.
Oregon State heads to Hillsboro to take on Portland Tuesday at Ron Tonkin Field, the home of the Single-A Hillsboro Hops. First pitch is slated for 5:35 p.m. PT and tickets can be purchased by visiting BeaverTickets.com.

- Oregon State's pitchers ended the series with 42 strikeouts in 30 innings. The staff issued nine walks.
- AJ Lattery's four innings equaled a career-long for the sophomore. He also threw four innings on Tuesday versus Nevada.
- Attendance for the series was 11,409, or an average of 3,803 per game. Oregon State is averaging 3,475 per date this season. That's through 12 games.
