Palacios’ Walk-Off Home Run Leads Arizona Past Huskies
TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 19 Arizona (20-12, 1-8 Pac-12) picked up its first conference win in the series finale with No. 11 Washington on a walk-off home run from Sharlize Palacios in the bottom of the seventh.
Arizona hit three home runs and scored 10 runs on 16 hits with nine RBI to take down the Huskies, 10-9. Allie Skaggs, Carlie Scupin, and Palacios each blasted home runs and seven Wildcats had multiple hits.
Izzy Pacho went 3-for-4, Paige Dimler went 2-for-2, and Sophia Carroll went 2-for-4 with two RBI to tie their career bests.
The Wildcats came out strong, scoring five runs in the first inning. Allie Skaggs got the offense going with a solo home run to give her 10 home runs on the season. With two outs, Carroll hit a two-RBI single and Perezchica had an RBI single to put the Huskies in an early 5-1 hole.
Washington scored two in the second on a home run and an RBI single to close the gap. Then, Dimler hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second to extend Arizona's lead to three.
The Huskies scored two in the fifth that Scupin answered with a two-RBI homer – her 14th home run of the season.
Washington scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a one-run lead and kept Arizona scoreless in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the seventh, Hanah Bowen retired three straight batters with a runner on base to hold Washington to nine runs.
In the bottom the seventh with a runner on second, Palacios hit a walk-off home run to secure the 10-9 win and Arizona's first Pac-12 victory.
Bowen (7-5) earned the win after pitching the final three innings and striking out three Huskies.
Arizona is set to travel to Oregon State next Friday, April 8 to kick off the three-game series in Corvallis, Ore. at 6 p.m. MST.
