Baksa Picks up Fourth MPSF/KAP7 Newcomer of the Week Honor

Apr 4, 2022

TEMPE, Ariz. – On Tuesday morning, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced this week's weekly honors, and ASU again has a player picking up an honor. The Sun Devil freshman attacker Vanda Baksa earned her fourth Newcomer of the week award after recording four goals and two assists in the overtime loss to the No. 2 UCLA Bruins.

She is just the fifth player to score four goals against the Bruins all season, four being the most UCLA has given up to a single player, and notched her ninth straight game with 3+ goals to continue her 15 game scoring streak.

Baksa now has 68 goals and 44 assists on the season, good for 112 points this year. Not only does she lead the Sun Devils in these categories, she sits atop the MPSF as the leader in goals, assists, points, and field blocks while being tied for second with teammate Lara Kiss in the steals category, three behind Maddie Musselman's conference-leading 36.

Aside from her offensive threat on Saturday, the NCAA's leader in field blocks had arguably her most crucial field block of the season on UCLA's last possession of regulation with just 15 seconds on the clock and a 7-on-6 advantage to stop the potential game winning goal and send the game into overtime.

No others in the conference were nominated for Newcomer of the Week this time around.
