Fanali Tied for Lead After Day One of Silverado Showdown
NAPA, Calif. - Alessandra Fanali was the story of the day for Sun Devil Women's Golf, as they completed the first round of the Silverado Showdown earlier today.
The senior was fantastic in setting the tone for Arizona State, finding herself in a tie for first place after shooting a 69 (-3) to open up the tournament. Fanali's performance was extremely crucial in keeping the Sun Devils within striking distance with the opportunity to move up a crowded leaderboard.
Fanali was nearly flawless while recording four birdies, including two on a bogey-free front nine to finish her round and build momentum heading into tomorrow. She is in a three-way tie with San Jose State's Antonia Malate and Texas A&M's Hailee Cooper. Fanali showed off a well-balanced game, finishing par three, four, and five holes under par. She is looking to duplicate her success from last year, coming off a Top-5 finish at the 2021 Silverado Showdown.
The front nine represented the final nine holes for the Sun Devils, as they started on the 10th tee. This is where Alessandra Fanali found her groove, finishing two-under and setting herself up nicely for a championship run. Grace Summerhays jjoined her in recording two birdies, while Alexandra Forsterling was able to par eight of nine holes.
Alessandra Fanali laid the ground work for what would turn out to be an excellent round, finishing her front nine at one-under par. Aside from a rough 17th hole, Alexandra Forsterling made par on eight of nine holes, allowing her to settle into a spot in the Top-30.
Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye
"Alessandra had a fantastic round of golf today," Coach Farr-Kaye remarked. "It is great to see her be tied for the lead after Round 1! Silverado is a great golf course. We just struggled with hitting enough greens today. This team is pretty tough and resilient so I know they will be ready to put a solid round in tomorrow."
