A pair of Bruins earned men's volleyball honors after last week's two victories over No. 5-ranked USC. Miles Partain earned Off the Block's National Setter of the Week recognition. Opposite Kevin Kobrine was voted the Molten / Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Offensive Player of the Week.
Partain finished with 32 assists and guided the Bruins to a .364 attack percentage in a sweep against USC on Thursday. The sophomore also had a match-high nine digs, totaled 46 set assists and helped the team hit .384 in a victory on Saturday to complete the home-and-home two-match series sweep. UCLA has now achieved at least a .300 attack percentage in 11 straight matches with Partain at the helm of the offense as the Bruins have risen to the top spot in the nation in hitting percentage for the season at .372.
Kobrine hit a combined .511 with just two errors on 47 swings in a pair of wins over USC which produced 26 kills. He added three block solos and an assist at the nets along with one service ace. Kobrine has now totaled double-digit kills in each of his last five MPSF matches He averaged 3.81 points per set, 1.75 digs and 3.25 kills per set in the two victories. The .591 hitting percentage in the win at USC marked a season-high figure for the redshirt junior.
UCLA (7-1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) will travel to play at second-place Pepperdine (5-3) in its next match on Thursday. The Bruins return home a couple of days later to host the Waves in a 6 p.m. start in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. UCLA will honor the seniors at that Saturday match.
