Susac Named to Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List

Apr 5, 2022

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Wildcats standout sophomore catcher Daniel Susac has been selected to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, USA Baseball announced on Tuesday morning.

The Golden Spikes Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top amateur baseball player, is given to the athlete who best exhibits exceptional on-field ability and exemplary sportsmanship.

Susac advanced to the Midseason Watch List after earning a spot on the award's Preseason Watch List in February. He is the eighth Wildcat to earn a spot on the Midseason Watch List since its introduction to the award process in 2012.

Halfway through the Wildcats regular season campaign, Susac is leading the Pac-12 with a .416 batting average and has tallied 27 runs scored, 13 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 30 RBI, a .696 slugging percentage, and a .468 on-base percentage. As of games played on April 4, Susac's 52 base hits rank second among all Division I players while his 13 doubles are tied for 14th nationally.

Susac, who played for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team last summer, has also earned unanimous First Team Preseason All-America recognition and a spot on the Buster Posey Award Watch List this year, among numerous other accolades and accomplishments. He is one of just four Pac-12 players to earn a spot on the Midseason Watch List.

Previous winners of the Golden Spikes Award include the likes of Kris Bryant (2013), Bryce Harper (2010), Stephen Strasburg (2009), Buster Posey (2008), Tim Lincecum (2006), former Wildcat Terry Francona (1980), and many more.
