UW Men Headed To Bay Area For Busy Weekend Of Racing

Apr 5, 2022

The Washington men's rowing team heads into a busy weekend as five different UW crews will race at two-day regattas in the Bay Area. The Huskies' first, second and third varsity eights will row at the Pac-12 Invitational at Redwood Shores, while the third, fourth and fifth eights will compete at the Ky Ebright Invitational at the Oakland Estuary.

The first and second eights will each row three races (two on Saturday and one on Sunday) vs. three different East Coast programs. The 3V8+ will row twice on Saturday in Oakland and once Sunday at Redwood Shores, while the fourth and fifth crews will row twice Saturday and once Sunday at the Estuary.

The Pac-12 Invitational regatta, at Redwood Shores and hosted by Stanford, includes eight programs, all of which were ranked in the initial IRA Varsity Eight Coaches' Poll, released on March 29: No. 2 Washington, No. 3 California, No. 19 Oregon State and No. 9 Stanford from the Pac-12, along with No. 11 Boston University, No. 10 Northeastern, No. 7 Syracuse and No. 13 Wisconsin.

The Ky Ebright Invitational (named after the former UW coxswain and assistant coach and longtime Cal coach), on the Oakland Estuary and hosted by Cal, features crews from the University of San Diego, UC San Diego and Santa Clara, as well as Cal and Washington.

Last year, the Huskies had a similar weekend, rowing head-to-head vs. Stanford at Redwood Shores while other crews faced Santa Clara on the Estuary on the same day. This time, however, both events cover Saturday and Sunday.

Following this trip to the Bay Area, the Huskies will have two weeks of preparation before returning to face California at Redwood Shores in the annual UW-Cal Dual, April 23.
