No. 8 USC Women's Golf Finishes Regular Season With Fifth At Silverado Showdown

Apr 6, 2022
Katherine Muzi tied for 18th in Napa with teammate Amari Avery.

Senior Katherine Muzi and freshman Amari Avery each fired final-round 1-under 71s — and tied for 18th overall — as the No. 8 USC women's golf team took fifth at the Silverado Showdown, closing out the regular season at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, Calif., on Wednesday (April 6).

The Trojans combined for a 23-over 887 (300-297-290). San Jose State won the event at 6-over with Oregon second at 8-over.

Muzi and and Avery finished with identical scores for the three-day event at 4-over 220 (75-74-71) to get into the top 20. The Trojan duo each made hay between 10 and 18. Muzi was 5-under between those holes, Avery -4, offsetting challenges for both between 1 and 9.

For Avery, her streak of five straight top 8 finishes to start her freshman career came to an end, but she has yet to finish outside the top 20. For Muzi, it was her seventh top 25 of the season.

Sophomore Brianna Navarrosa tied for 23rd at 6-over 222 (74-74-74) for her seventh top 25 finish as well.

Sophomore Michaela Morard tied for 38th at 10-over 226 (77-75-74), finishing her final nine holes at 2-under.

Freshman Xin (Cindy) Kou tied for 49th at 12-over 228 (76-75-77).

Next up for the Trojans is the 2022 Pac-12 Champions, April 18-20 in Eugene, Ore., as they try to win their third straight conference title.
