Men's Tennis Heads to Arizona

FIRST SERVE
The Utah men's tennis team returns to action this weekend after not competing last weekend. The Utah squad hits the road to face Arizona and Arizona State this Friday and Sunday. These will be the eighth straight match against ranked opponents this weekend.

UTAH IN THE POLL
The ITA Team National Rankings were announced on Wednesday. Utah came in at No. 32. The ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Men's Team Rankings feature the nation's Top 75 teams.
 
ITA PLAYER RANKINGS
The ITA Division I Men's Rankings came out on Wednesday. The doubles team of Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman came in ranked as the 15th in the rankings. This is the highest this duo has been ranked this season. The pair is 18-1 on the season with wins over then-No. 17 and then-No. 32 double teams. Capalbo and Espin Busleiman have won nine of their last ten matches. Espin Busleiman joins the singles rankings for the second time this season. He came in ranked No. 93 in the singles rankings. This spring, he is 15-1 in singles play.
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE UTES
The Utah squad has a successful weekend of play during their most recent home matches against then-No. 44 Oregon and then-No. 46 Washington. The Utes claimed the wins in each match, 4-0, and raised their overall record to 18-4 and a 2-2 in conference play.
 
During their match against the Oregon Ducks, Utah's No. 22-ranked doubles team consisting of Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman, downed the No. 25-ranked duo on court one, making for an exciting doubles point and a lively match.
 
The match against the Washington Huskies also included some notable victories against ranked players. During doubles play, Utah's Francisco Bastias and Bruno Caula defeated the No. 34-ranked team 6-2 on court two, setting the squad up for a victory in double matches. As the match moved into singles, Utah's Espin Busleiman also took a notable win against No. 100 Ewen Lumsden 6-2, 6-4.
 
SCOUTING ARIZONA
The Arizona Wildcats currently hold a 17-5 overall record and are 4-0 in Pac-12 play, boasting victories against USC, ASU, Stanford, and Cal. The Utes faced Arizona twice last season, once in Salt Lake City and the first round of the Pac-12 Championships. Utah defeated the Wildcats 4-3 at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. The Wildcats had four players ranked in the ITA singles rankings. They were led by Jonas Eriksson Ziverts, who is ranked No. 44. Ziverts is 8-9 this season in dual matches. The doubles team of Herman Hoeyeraal and Ziverts is ranked No. 42. Arizona is 38-18 in doubles play this spring as a team.
 
SCOUTING ARIZONA STATE
The ASU Sun Devils have a 6-12 overall record and are 1-3 in Pac-12 conference play. Their most recent victory was against Cal, where they won 4-2. The last matchup the Utes had with the Sun Devils resulted in a 4-2 loss. The Sun Devils have Murphy Cassone (No. 17) ranked in the ITA singles rankings, and the doubles team of Max McKennon and Fabien Salle are ranked No. 43. Arizona State is 21-16 in doubles matches this spring season and is 29-42 in singles action.
 
BEST START IN PROGRAM HISTORY
The Utes opened the season 16-0, which is the best start in program history. The previous school record was 11-0, which was set during the 2015-16 season.

Utah returns to the George S. Eccles Tennis Center after this weekend of matches when they host USC on Friday, April 15. The match will start at 3 p.m. MT.
