Pac-12 North Invitational This Weekend For Sand Devils

TEMPE, Ariz. – After a week off, Sun Devil Beach Volleyball will gear up once again to compete in the Pac-12 North Invitational in Stanford, California. The Sand Devils will face off against Oregon, No. 3 UCLA, Utah and Washington on Saturday and Sunday. 

How to Follow
Arizona State will play two duals each day. ASU will play against Oregon at 12 p.m. MST, and No. 3 UCLA at 5 p.m. MST on Saturday. Then on Sunday, the Devils will play against Utah at 8 a.m. MST, and Washington at 5 p.m. MST. The duals against the Ducks and the Utes will be on the Pac-12 Network. Sun Devil Outlook
Arizona State (10-12, 2-5 Pac-12)

  • The Sand Devils most recently competed at the Pac-12 South Invitational, narrowly losing to crosstown rival Arizona in the fourth matchup 3-2. The Devils also faced off against Stanford, USC and Cal, falling in each dual. 
  • Sophomore Kate Fitzgerald and freshman Kylie Wickley earned the most wins in the last weekend of competition, the two of them teaming up to win the two matches they played together, both against ranked opponents. Fitzgerald leads the team in individual wins this season with 12. The next three Sand Devils are tied at 11: Wickley, sophomore Taryn Ames and senior Maddy Salazar.
  • Grad Student Cierra Flood is continuing her strong final season, as she now ranks third all-time in career victories with 60, and has consistently played in the No. 1 spot alongside Lexi Sweeney. The two of them have a 9-13 record this season so far. Flood needs one more win to put her in a tie for second in the record book.


Opponent Outlook 
Oregon (8-11, 1-4 Pac-12) 

  • They most recently competed at the Boise State Beach Classic, where they fell to Colorado Mesa, Boise State and Washington. The Ducks' lone conference win came at the Pac-12 South Invitational where they defeated the Huskies. 
  • Arizona State last played Oregon in April 2018 at the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championships, wherein the Sand Devils defeated the Ducks 5-0. 

No. 3 UCLA (21-2, 5-0 Pac-12) 

  • The Bruins most recently went 2-1 at the UCLA Invitational, picking up victories over No. 15 Florida International and No. 6 LSU, while also losing to No. 2 TCU.
  • Overall, UCLA has picked up key victories over ranked opponents in No. 1 USC, No. 7 GCU, No. 4 Florida State and No. 8 Stanford. 
  • UCLA and ASU most recently matched up against one another at the 2021 Pac-12 North Invitational, where the Bruins defeated the Sun Devils 5-0.  

Utah (8-11, 1-3 Pac-12) 

  • Utah most recently played in Manhattan Beach, California, where they lost to No. 9 Hawaii and No. 5 Loyola Marymount. The Utes' lone Pac-12 win came against Oregon at the Pac-12 South Tournament.
  • Utah last faced off against Arizona State at the 2021 Boise State Beach Classic, where the Sun Devils won 5-0. 

Washington (6-8, 2-4 Pac-12) 

  • Washington most recently competed at the Boise State Beach Classic, where they came up victorious over Colorado Mesa and Oregon and lost to Boise State twice. The Huskies' best win came against then-No. 11 Cal at the Pac-12 South Invitational, where UW won 3-2.  
  • Arizona State and Washington last faced off this season on March 11, where the Sun Devils defeated the Huskies 4-1 at the Cal Poly Tournament.
