Women's Tennis Hosts Arizona and ASU

The Utah women's tennis team continues its homestand this weekend when it hosts No. 49 Arizona and No. 20 Arizona State. The Utes are 20-7 when playing at home over the last three seasons.

ITA NATIONAL TEAM RANKINGS
The sixth computerized ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Women's team rankings were released on April 6. The ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Women's Team Rankings feature the nation's Top 75 teams. On Wednesday, the Utes entered the ITA National Team Rankings as the 53rd ranked team.
 
ITA PLAYER RANKINGS
The ITA Division I Women's Doubles Rankings came out on Wednesday. Utah's double team of Emily Dush and Anastasia Goncharova is the 88th ranked doubles team.
 
LAST TIME OUT 
Utah played No. 36 Oregon last Friday and lost a heartbreaker. The Utes were able to take the doubles point with Linda Huang / Madison Tattini and Lindsay Hung / Anastasia Goncharova, both clinching their matches against the Ducks. Huang and Tattini won against the Oregon team of Sophie Luescher / Uxia Martinez Moral, 6-4. Hung and Goncharova defeated their opponents, 7-5, to clinch the doubles point in a tough match. 
 
In singles, Hung finished first, earning a point for the Utes, 6-3,6-1. Following closely behind her was Tattini, who was defeated, 2-6, 3-6. Emily Dush battled it out with Oregon player Myah Petchey and lost 4-6, 2-6. Anya Lamoreaux was the next to win against her opponent, 6-2, 6-3, putting the Utes ahead 3-2. Huang fell to Ducks, Sophie Luescher, 7-6(6), 6-3, in a tough match, allowing Oregon to tie up the score 3-3. Goncharova, in the last match of the day, was able to win her first set, 6-4, but was ultimately defeated in the next two, 4-6, 4-6. 
 
RANKED OPPONENTS
This weekend, the Utes continue its tough stretch of matches. They square off with No. 49 Arizona and No. 20 Arizona State this weekend this week. Ten of the last 11 matches for Utah have been against ranked teams. Utah defeated then-No. 21 USC, 4-2, to start this stretch.
  
SCOUTING ARIZONA
Arizona is currently ranked 49th in the ITA and enters the weekend with an overall record of 14-8 and 2-5 in the Pac-12. The Wildcats have lost their past two matches and are 4-4 when playing away from Tucson. Arizona has no ITA ranked singles or doubles players. Parker Fry leads the team with an 11-2 record. She is a perfect 6-0 when playing No. 5 singles. She also has wins in No. 3 and No. 4 singles. In dual matches, the Wildcats are 26-27 in matches. 
 
SCOUTING ARIZONA STATE
Arizona State is currently 20th in the ITA rankings and is 11-6 on the season and 3-4 in Pac-12 play. The Sun Devils' Giulia Morlet is ranked No. 95 in singles, and the doubles team of Patricija Spanka and Domenika Turkovic is ranked No. 21. Spanka is 6-7 on the season but in her last match defeated then-No. 13 Connie Ma, 7-5, 6-4, helping the Sun Devils beat Stanford, 4-2. Cali Jankowski leads the team with a 12-1 record. She is 8-1 when playing No. 4 singles. The Sun Devils doubles team is 7-1 on the season, and their last win came on March 26 when they defeated the duo from Rice, 7-5. 
  
LAST TIME VS ARIZONA AND ASU
Utah last played Arizona on April 10, 2021. The Utes were defeated 4-2. Utah battled it out with ASU only a day before that and lost 4-0.
 
TOP TEN RECRUITING CLASS 
The Utah women's tennis team earned a top ten recruiting class for the first time in school history. The Utes earned the ninth-ranked class by the Tennis Recruiting Network. Utah has signed three for next season. Kaila Barksdale, Yasmin Ezzat, and Marcela Lopez have all signed to join the Utes for the 2022-23 season. To find out more about the class, click here
 
TOP AUSTRALIAN PLAYERS
Universal Tennis took a look at the top 10 ranked college players from Australia. The results are based on the UTR Ranking. Utah's Linda Huang came in fourth on the list. Her ranking is 10.23 from the UTR Rating.
 
UP NEXT 
Utah hosts Colorado in the last match of the regular season on Saturday, April 16. The match will start at 12 p.m. MT. The Utes will honor its seniors that day.
