Beavers Open Weekend Strong in Pac-12 Invite Saturday

HENDERSON, N.V. -  The No. 18 Oregon State women's rowing team had a great first day of racing in Vegas in its first out of conference competition this spring at the Pac-12 Invite.

All Beaver boats finished second to No. 3 California and in front of No. 19 Alabama and UCLA.

The 2V4 had a strong start, separating from Alabama & UCLA in the 2nd 500 of the race and finishing 8.78 behind Cal.

The Varsity 4 had open water over UCLA at 1000m and finished 2nd to Cal by 7.08.

In the 2V8 race the Beavs had a tough start and were down in the 4th place position off the line. They battled back over the entire 2k race course and overcame Alabama & UCLA and finished 2nd to Cal by 7.15

The final race of the day was the V8, the Beavs were strong off the line and had really tight racing with all competitors throughout the first 1000m before separating from Alabama & UCLA and working to take back seats on Cal who ended up finished just 4.46 over the Beavs.

The Beavers have the second day of racing tomorrow, facing No. 15 Penn, No. Southern Methodist and No. 3 Cal. Sunday begins with the 2v4 race at 8 a.m. followed by the varsity four (8:45 a.m.), 2v8 (9:30 a.m.) and concludes with the varsity eight (10:15 a.m.).
