Ducks Drop Nonconference Finale at UC Davis

Apr 9, 2022

DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis outscored Oregon 11-4 in the second and third quarters to defeat the Ducks 17-12 on Saturday afternoon.

Hanna Hilcoff led Oregon (3-10, 1-5 Pac-12) with five goals while Morgan McCarthy scored twice and grabbed seven draw controls. Nakeeya McCardell picked up four draws and a groundball.

How it Happened: The Ducks fell behind early after struggling to take advantage of offensive opportunities. Morgan McCarthy scored the first goal of the game, but Oregon failed to capitalize after winning the following two draw controls and the Aggies (5-5) took an early 4-1 lead.

UO adjusted and rallied to get back into the game. Hilcoff and Shonly Wallace combined on a 3-0 run that saw the Ducks knot the game up with 13:04 left in the half. The Aggies responded by scoring five of the next six goals, interrupted only by Hilcoff, to take a 10-6 lead into halftime.

The second half followed the same pattern with the Ducks scoring first before a strong response from UC Davis. Hilcoff appeared to gain some momentum for Oregon when she completed her hat trick to open the third quarter, but the Aggies scored the next five goals to take a 15-7 lead.

The Ducks battled in the fourth quarter, winning the period 5-2 behind two goals apiece from Hilcoff and Wallace and one from Katie Collins. Oregon won six of the quarter's eight draw controls and was a perfect 4-for-4 on clear attempts.

Up Next: The Ducks return to Eugene for their final two home games of 2022 against Arizona State and USC.
